I am very happy to share that my new book, Why Good Students Get Stuck, is now available on Amazon.

This book grew out of years of working with capable students who were doing many things “right” but still not seeing their writing scores improve. They were writing more essays, memorizing more phrases, receiving more corrections, and trying harder — yet their scores often stayed frustratingly flat.

The problem, I believe, is that many students are not struggling because they are careless or unmotivated. They are struggling because the real barrier has not been clearly diagnosed.

A student’s essay may look weak on the surface, but the reason may be deeper than grammar, vocabulary, or sentence length. Sometimes the issue begins with the prompt. Sometimes the claim is too broad. Sometimes the evidence is present but not clearly connected. Sometimes the explanation is missing the step the reader needs most. Without identifying the true source of the problem, students can spend months practicing without making the kind of progress they need.

Why Good Students Get Stuck was written to help students, parents, and teachers understand these hidden writing barriers more clearly. It explains why capable students can plateau, what kinds of problems commonly block score growth, and why simply writing more essays is not always the answer.

This release is an important milestone for Proficiency Forward. The book is also the foundation for the diagnostic work I am developing for students who need more than general writing advice. My goal is to help families move from confusion to clarity, so students can focus their effort where it will matter most.

I have been especially encouraged to see early organic interest in the book already, even before a full launch or major advertising push. That tells me this topic is resonating with the very families and educators I hoped to reach.
